A Rare Walnut Silk Cocoon Specimen Cabinet
FRANCE, 19th Century
The walnut cabinet with moulded top and base, with twin doors opening to reveal seven slides with various specimens of silk cocoons and raw silk skeins and hanks, all individually identified with French hand-written labels, the insides of the doors opening internally to reveal a further 10 different skeins of raw silk in the left hand door and 9 more in the right hand door. Virtually complete.

There is a small calling card inside the cabinet inscribed in pencil: Jimmy, with Mrs. T. Gaddum’s love, sorry it is not very clean.
