The mahogany box bound with shaped brass mounts to the corners, front and lid, the front with a shaped key escutcheon with an imitation keyhole (no lock) and brass ring handle to the lid, opening to reveal the interior; the sides with shaped brass plates and carrying handles; over a shaped frieze and with and four folding legs. The box measures 9.6 inches (24.5cm) high and with the legs opened, stands at an overall height of 19.5 inches (50cm).
Campaign furniture was designed for use by travellers (usually to the East) and in the military. The brass-mounted corners and strapwork protect the item during transit and are typical in this type of furniture.
