A coble is a type of 'clinker-built' open fishing boat found in the north east of England, Scotland and parts of Wales used in river estuaries and on the sea, with a flat bottom for launching and landing on sandy beaches, a high bow to cope with the conditions of the North Sea. On Tweedside they were and still are used by ghillies for salmon and sea trout fishing.
