Of sarcophagus form with fielded panels, the hinged, gabled lid with ‘fan’ carved acroteria, raised on gadrooned feet and brass castors.

The form of this cellarette is inspired by Roman sarcophagii. An example of comparable form, the burial chest for Marcus Pilius Eucarpus for his wife Pilia Philtata, acquired in 1776, can be found in the British Museum (no. 1776,1108.8).
