We are delighted to announce the recent sale of this mosaic panel depicting a Bacchante bordered by a collection of micromosaic butterflies to The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Attributed to Andrea Volpini (Rome doc. 1756-1812) and Giacomo Raffaelli (Rome 1753-1836), it was made circa 1780-90 when the adoption of secular and profane subjects proliferated in the Vatican Mosaic Workshop in order to appeal to a larger and more international clientele.
The panel was exhibited at The Treasure House Fair in 2024. Join us at this year's fair to see more superb examples of works of art and furniture from the 16th-19th Centuries incorporating interesting cross-cultural pieces from China, India, Jamaica and South America.
